In an open letter, Ruhr University Bochum's Rector Axel Schölmerich called on all members of his university community to fight racism. Shocked by the brutal police killing of George Floyd in the United States, Schölmerich emphasized the role his university must play in understanding and taking measures against racist behavior wherever it may occur, be it on the street, in institutions of higher education, in the housing market, anywhere. Ruhr University Bochum is already engaged in promoting diversity, inclusion, and educational equity through a variety of initiatives including RUB bekennt Farbe, Universitäten ohne Grenzen, and Unser Campus.
